Neurofeedback Services in Delaware

The brain was once thought to be a fixed organ; however, the brain is able to consistently learn, adapt, and change in many ways. With the use of cutting-edge neuroscience technology, we can help clients train their minds and emotional patterns.

What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback literally means “brain” and “input”, where the brain is monitored, and input is given instantly. Neurofeedback is a non-invasive, brain-based biofeedback intervention that trains the brain to function in a healthier more efficient ways.

What is Brain Mapping

Before neurofeedback treatment can begin, every patient needs to have a Quantitative Electrocephalogram (QEEG) otherwise known as brain mapping. Brain mapping is a process that provides and objective assessment of the brain health and serves as a road map for neurofeedback treatment. When getting a QEEG, the client sits in a comfortable chair while the therapist strategically places 20 sensors on the scalp that record the electrical activity across the brain. This electrical activity is quantified and compared to an age-normed database. The processed EEG is then converted into displays of two-dimensional function (frequency band x activation level) called brain maps. The information that is derived from the QEEG session can be interpreted by experts and used as a clinical tool to evaluate brain function, and to tailor the treatment program to the specific needs, symptoms, and brain activity of the client.

Brainwaves

Neurofeedback targets the four primary brain waves. (Alpha, Beta, Delta and Theta). Each of these brain waves are responsible for regulating the active and subconscious aspects of your body.

Image

Delta Brainwave

Sleepy, Dreaming
are associated with deep, dreamless sleep and regeneration. Delta brainwaves occur when you are asleep and are responsible for healing the body.
Image

Theta Brainwave

Drowsy, Meditative
are associated with light sleep or extreme relaxation. When your subconscious takes over you start producing Theta brainwaves
Image

Alpha Brainwave

Relaxed, Reflective
occur when you are awake but relaxed and not processing much information. When you first get up and right before you fall asleep, you are generating Alpha waves, as well as when you close your eyes to rest
Image

Beta Brainwave

Alert, Working
are associated with the mental state most people are in during the day and most of their waking lives. When you are alert and focused, you are producing Beta brainwaves

Each of these brain waves are responsive for different body functions but they all are equally important to your health and wellbeing. Researchers have known for decades the correlation between irregular brainwaves and common neurological conditions. Neurofeedback is the first field to directly target these irregular brainwaves and restore them to normal ranges.

Neurofeedback FAQs

What are the positive effects of Neurofeedback?
Studies show that Neurofeedback  effects are similar to the side effects of meditation. People report sleeping better, increased energy level, enhanced calmness, enhanced mood, improved concentration, improved focus and attention, memory improvement, reduced emotional reactivity, and relaxation.
Will I notice a difference right away?
Patients reported that positive changes are noticed between 6-8 sessions, which can be completely in around 3-4 weeks. However, some patients have reported seeing changes immediately following their first session.
Is Brain Mapping Painful?
No, Brain Mapping is not painful, as it is non-invasive. This means that there is nothing entering your body or penetrating your skin. During the session, you will wear a standard EEG cap (similar to a shower or swim cap) and that will measure your brainwaves for the report.
How many sessions will it take before I notice a difference?
Adverse side-effects are rare, minor and short-term. The most likely response after a session is feeling fatigue, or the opposite, over-energized. On occasion, a very sensitive person might experience nightmares, moodiness, irritability, headaches, agitation or insomnia.
How many sessions will I need?
The amount of sessions needed will vary depending upon the results of your brain map. However, participants usually schedule 10-20 sessions to achieve the desired changes.
